NRM Toolbar improvements and record use

The NRM Toolbar (www.nrmtoolbar.net.au), the Australian-first search engine and databases for accessing NRM-specific information, has been improved. Comments have been taken on board about some of the technological issues and search is now working better than ever!

Try the NRM Search Engine and you will now find:

  • Better search functionality with the NRM Search Engine now with the capacity to index five times as much as before. This means it can search many more pages to find results.
  • More accurate alignment with the Australian Spatial Data Directory meaning it is finding more results from this database.

Also, use of the NRM Toolbar has been increasing each month with June proving a record month with over 2500 hits. As well as this, 20 Evidence Bases have been established with over 3000 records.

And further enhancements coming up include:

1. My alerts: an alert tool will allow users to set up automatic email alerts for specific types of content and specific subject areas. For example, you may be interested in tracking what new Decision Support Tools are released relating to coastal and marine environments or you may like to know when any new publications related to salinity become available.

2. Knowledge Market Report: This product will contain various statistics and graphs of user interaction with the NRM Toolbar. It will present knowledge investors with important information such as: What are the current popular topics in NRM? What are people failing to find on the search engine? What are specific segments of NRM professionals looking for? What percentage of publications hit by users are from our organisation?

3. Evidence Bases Version 2: There are a number of enhancements in design including:

  • the addition of Google Map functionality
  • browsing via custom vocabularies
  • improved internal search including via content type
  • additional fields to search for existing metadata
  • improved site navigation
  • add a search box for your Evidence Base to your other Internet sites.

4. MERI Evidence Base add-on: New functionality for the Evidence Base software that will allow a user to associate individual pieces of evidence to particular assumptions within a Program Logic or Conceptual model. This add-on is being sponsored and managed by Clear Horizon Pty Ltd.

5. A 'List of Evidence' page will be created for each assumption that evidence is to be collected for. On this page will be listed all the evidence that tests this assumption and also a summary of the evidence.
