Land & Water Australia is pleased to announce that Tom Aldred has been seconded from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry for 18 months commencing 21 January, to take up the position of Manager, Landscapes R&D.
Welcoming Mr Aldred to the Corporation, Executive Director of Land & Water Australia Andrew Campbell said Mr Aldred has ideal skills and experience for the exciting times ahead.
'Tom will be leading new programs in Tropical Rivers, Environmental Water Allocation, and Native Vegetation, and helping us to broker new relationships across the portfolio with government and industry, in particular with the National Water Initiative. He brings to us terrific skills in policy development and program administration, in managing people, and as a networker and broker of productive partnerships. Tom understands NRM science and policy issues and has extensive contacts across government and industry.' Mr Campbell said.
Tom Aldred has been a Senior Executive in the Department for almost six years, involving stints in the NRM policy taskforce that designed the National Action Plan, and subsequently almost two years establishing the joint team responsible for the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality. He then had two years in charge of rural support and adjustment, including the Agriculture - Advancing Australia package, before becoming General Manager, Forest Industries Branch.
Prior to this secondment, Tom was the Government Director on the Board of the Grains Research and Development Corporation. Tom worked in the office of the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (and previously Primary Industries and Energy) as a Departmental Adviser and Liaison Officer during 1998-9 under Ministers Anderson and Vaile.
Tom has a BSc Forestry from the ANU and an MBA from Deakin University.
