Royal visit provides new chapter in Lyndfield Park story

04/03/2005

Twenty years ago the Weatherstones faced chronic environmental problems including such as tree dieback, erosion, salinity and poor shelter for stock.

With a vision of sustainable land management and the drive to make it happen, the Weatherstones have transformed their farm through careful planning and targeted action.

In the process they have managed to significantly increase the property's resilience to the stresses of drought, improved its financial turnover, increased the capital value and created habitat for more species of native birds than any other property in the area.

Land & Water Australia is proud to have been able to assist John and Jan Weatherstone tell their story through the Community Fellowship Program. The Fellowship enabled John to write a booklet detailing the thinking and process behind the decisions they made, and the dramatic effect this has had.

Copies of the booklet 'Lyndfield Park: looking back, moving forward' are available for download from the Land & Water Australia website, www.lwa.gov.au/catalogue, or by calling 1800 776616 and quoting product code PK030494.

Community Fellowships are non-academic financial grants which help people who are involved in practical natural resource management to share their stories with a wider audience. More information about the Community Fellowships program can be found on the Land & Water Australia website at www.lwa.gov.au.
