Sustainable Primary Industries Manager appointed

09-06-2004

Manager of the landmark Land, Water & Wool research program Anwen Lovett has been appointed Land & Water Australia's new manager for the Sustainable Primary Industries portfolio of R&D programs.

Ms Lovett was successful from a highly competitive field to fill the position which has been created as Land & Water Australia lays the foundations for its next five-year Strategic Plan. The new Plan will see the Corporation organise its research program under three broad headings - Industries, Landscapes and People.

Congratulating Ms Lovett on her appointment the Executive Director of Land & Water Australia Andrew Campbell said Ms Lovett would bring a broad knowledge of rural industries and excellent management skills to the position.

'Anwen joined Land & Water Australia in 2001 as Manager of Land, Water & Wool to pull together this major $20 million program which is a major investment by Australian Wool Innovation,' Mr Campbell said.

'Before joining the Corporation she worked with the National Farmers Federation for more than five years across the environment, natural resource management, farm chemicals and biotechnology portfolios.

'With extensive networks across a broad range of primary industries Anwen is well placed to work with the existing partners we have across five industry-based R&D programs while also identifying and negotiating new opportunities.'

The five programs under the Sustainable Primary Industries portfolio are:

  • Grain & Graze (with Meat & Livestock Australia and the Grains Research and Development Corporation
  • Land, Water & Wool (with Australian Wool Innovation)
  • Managing Climate Variability (with the Grains, Rural Industries and Sugar Research and Development Corporations, Dairy Australia, Meat & Livestock Australia, Australian Wool Innovation and the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry through the Natural Heritage Trust)
  • National Program for Sustainable Irrigation (with partners including industry and commodity groups, irrigators, water authorities, research agencies and State and Federal Governments)
  • National Dryland Salinity Program (with partners from across multiple industries as well as research agencies, the Murray Darling Basin Commission and State and Federal Governments).
Ms Lovett started in her new position immediately.
