Scoping the Seasonal Forecasting for Eastern Australia R&D Initiative

A suitably qualified consortium is required to undertake a Science Plan that defines the opportunities, content, components and benefits for increased climate science investment in eastern Australia, focusing on improved seasonal forecasting and its applications to primary industries.

The Managing Climate Variability Program fosters research and development in improving seasonal forecasting, providing access to climate information related to agricultural risk management, developing tools for tactical decision making, and adapting agricultural and natural resource management practices to Australia's climate variability.

Land & Water Australia is managing the Program on behalf of industry partners: Dairy Australia, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Grains R & D Corporation, Meat & Livestock Australia, the Rural Industries R & D Corporation, and the Sugar R & D Corporation.

The objective of the proposed eastern Australia climate science initiative is to improve seasonal forecasting skill and to deliver this information in forms and at times that are of value to primary industry enterprise decisions. The investment will build on existing climate change knowledge to downscale climate forecasting and global circulation model information, providing regionally relevant seasonal predictions and local, often commodity specific applications.
